Sample Unit Plan

Marketing Unit: "Don't get eaten by the sharks!"

CULMINATING TASK:  Working with a partner, students will act as contestants on the TV show, Shark Tank, and create a business product to market. They will then create a marketing plan in the provided template.

Students will also be required to present their marketing plan to a board of “sharks” which will include the instructor, the business education department head, and various business executives from the community. Students must have all necessary documents and presentation tools at the time of presentation. All presentations should be 8-10 minutes long. After presentations are complete, one team will be awarded with a “deal” from the sharks as well as business bucks from the instructor.

RATIONALE: At the culmination of the unit, students will be able to apply what they learned to create a well-developed marketing plan. The culminating task gives the students the opportunity to present what they have learned and gain experience in a real life scenario. Students will understand the concept of marketing and its importance in the business industry. They will benefit by learning how to use various presentation programs that will be beneficial in other business or personal situations. They will develop an understanding of how marketing applies to their own lives and will be able to use that information in the future.
